SQL Server 2008 - Create SQL Server Alias

Run SQL Server Configuration Manager

Select Alias and create a new alias with a right click

Type the Alias name e.g. SA_MOSS and the server name here SERVER

alternatively you can do this without the client tool. Just start Regedit and go (or create the key)

 

HKLM\SOFTEWARE\Microsoft\MSSQLServer\Client\ConectTo

and create a new STRING value e.g. with the name SA_MOSS and the content

DBMSSOCN,SERVER
