Hide a List with SharePoint Designer 2010

With SharePoint Designer 2010 it is possible to hide a list.

Just select the list an enable hidden

If you want to hide a list please uncheck "Display this ilist on the Quick Launch" otherwise you can not hide the list

After saving this works realy fine. You also would not see the list in SharePoint Designer again.

You can if you know the URL browse to the list and work with this list, but you can not configure it in SharePoint Designer.

There is a way to make the hidden list available again.

Select in SharePoint Designer in "All Files"/Lists with a right click the hidden list.

Then choose Properties

Now you can change all settings in SharePoint Designer and also change the hidden attribute

Create folder content type with metadata

Create new content type

Fill in name and choose Folder Content Type and Content Type “Folder” as parent

Assign the needed columns. In this case a status column

Choose add from existing content type to a document library

And choose new content type special folder

Afterwards you get a new column “status”

Now you can add a new folder with the New button for the document library

Now you can type the folder name and all meta data you configured. In this case the status

First of all you have to extract the installation file. In this case i used the following script to install 14.0.4730.1010_OfficeServer_none_ship_x64_en-us.exe.

Enable FILESTREAM (RBS) for SharePoint 2010

Run the following commands in SQL Server management query window. Change the database name as needed.

use [WSS_Content]

if not exists (select * from sys.symmetric_keys where name = N'##MS_DatabaseMasterKey##')

create master key encryption by password = N'Admin Key Password !2#4'

if not exists (select groupname from sysfilegroups where groupname=N'RBSFilestreamProvider')

alter database [WSS_Content]

add filegroup RBSFilestreamProvider contains filestream

add file (name = RBSFilestreamFile, filename = 'c:\Blob')

to filegroup RBSFilestreamProvider

After activating this three commands you will find some files in the new folder c:\blob. Important. This folder will be created by the sql command.

Install RBS

Do not run the msi file directly.

On the database and first SQL server run the following command:

Check rbs_install_log.txt after installation:

To enable RBS on a specific web application open the SharePoint Management Shell on run this commands

$rbss.SetActiveProviderName($rbss.GetProviderNames()[0])

After the activation you can find additionals files and folder in the blob folder

After uploading a file (in this example rbs_install_log.txt) in a document library

You will find new folders and files (with guid names) in the blob directory structure.

If you upload a new version of this file, the new file will be place in the same folder with a new name. SharePoint does not save the difference only.

Workflows with Visio and SharePoint Designer

Create a new Visio diagram

Choose Microsoft SharePoint Workflow

The following Actions are supported by Visio to design a workflow:

After you designed the workflow do not forget to add an start and an end to the workflow

Export the workflow in the Visio Workflow Interchange format

Open SharePoint Designer and connect to the site collection where you want to enable the Visio workflow

Open up the workflow site objects and click on the button "Import from Visio"

Select the vmi file create and exported with Visio

After choosing the workflows file a wizard will be started

You can define the name for the workflow and choose the type

Bound to a list or library or
Reusable (all or specific content type)

SharePoint Designer is preparing the workflow configuration

The following pictures shows the workflow designed in Visio. You can now change the name (ID3) and all blue underline terms and configure the actions.

For example

increment a variable
copy the current item to the calendar list
replace contribute permissions of the current item to read permissions
the finally send a mail to the administrator

If there is a error in the workflow definition, you will get the following error message.

Save the xoml file to SharePoint.

After saving the workflow you can configure it with SharePoint Designer

And now we will test the workflow. First of all we need a element in the calendar list

And now we need to start the new workflow

Click on SharePoint Workflow

And click on Start

After starting we can have a look to the workflow history

Here we can see the SharePoint Designer/Visio workflow completed

In my environment if you want to see the workflow diagram i get a unexpected error.

Wiki's in SharePoint 2010

There two different ways to handle wikis in SharePoint 2010

Wiki Page Library
Create a new wiki library

Here is the list of list/library temples available

If you choose the wiki page library you will have the follwoing screen

You can edit this wiki pages like normal pages

New in version 14 is the use of web parts in wiki pages. This picture shows you the different possibilities to add informations to a wiki page.

For exaple pictures can now be uploaded directly to a library and included in the wiki page with one step

Web parts can be added to the wiki page

Existing and new lists can be added

In edit mode [[link]] can be used you add a link

With [[ (ctrl-space) a choice of all wiki pages will be displayed

There is also a new site feature

This feature handles the complete site like a wiki. The wiki start page will be the start page for the site collection
Enterprise Wiki
In site collection with the publishing feature active you can create Enterprise wikis (library)

This enterprise wikis do have some additional functionally

The page layout can be changed (or/and deployed centrally)

There is also a feature to use reusable Content

The ribbon bar shows in the enterprise version a symbol to add video and audio

Office programs open documents in read-only

Save this CSS setting in a file on the SharePoint site

Upload the file to SharePoint DocLib

Go to the site settings

Click on "Master page"

Choose your MyCSS.css file for an alternate CSS. And activate if needed the reset all subsites option

All CSS format with are in the MyCSS.css file will be active.

The "Master page" menu is only visible if the publishing feature is activated.

InfoPath form in a WebPart

How to create a embedded InfoPath form in a normal web part page or site. This is how it can look like:

Change the web.config of the web application and add this line in the section <SafeControls>

Go to the site where you want to show the InfoPath forms and activate the site settings

Click on Web Parts

Click on New

Activate the InfoPath XmlFormView Assembly

And click on Populate Gallery

Now you can create a new site or web part page. The following example shows how to do this with webpart pages. Please keep in mind to use the link http://url/site?contents=1 to remove/deactivate the XmlFormView WebPart.

Create a new Page

Type the Title, URL an choose a Web Part Page layout to create. Open the Page and edit

Add a web Part

Add the XmlFormView WebPart

The WebPart is not configured. Press close

This is the result. This web part is not going to work. We need to add an other one but first disable this one.

In the page library select the webpart page and edit the properties

Click on "Open Web Part Page in maintenance view"

Select the web part and click on close

Go back to edit the web part page and add a web part

Select the XmlFormView web part again. This time you get the following message

Now modify the web part

Open the Data Binding properties

You need to have a deployed InfoPath form (see XsnLocation) and you also need a library to store the edited forms (SaveLocation). Please create them before

Now we need to delete the fist web part. Edit the page in the page library

ACT supports anonymous, Integrated Windows, basic, digest, and Passport authentication mechanisms for test execution. Windows Authentication

ACT supports Integrated Windows authentication while testing, but you cannot record tests for a Web application that has the Integrated Authentication option enabled within Internet Information Services (IIS). The following steps show you how to work around this problem.

To record by using an application that uses Windows authentication

Enable basic authentication, in addition to Integrated Windows authentication, on your IIS server.
Record the ACT test script for testing your application. Provide the appropriate domain, user name, and passwords for your Web application when prompted by the tool.
Change the Web application configuration back to Integrated Windows authentication.
Comment out or delete the following line of each request in the test script, which was recorded in Step 2.
